Transactions | McCord Museum
In 2006, the McCord Museum’s exhibition Transactions launched the first in a series of outdoor installations featuring large-scale reproductions of photographs from its renowned Notman Photographic Archives, which hold over one million images, including some 450,000 photographs and negatives taken by the historic Notman Studio, in existence for over seventy-eight years.
The street exhibition featured images mounted in large aluminum brackets, inviting passerby to encounter the works over the course of their own everyday lives, offering an opportunity to wander in and out of moments from history. Since viewed by more than 2.5 million people, these open-air exhibitions clearly show the relevance of the museum and the public's appreciation of its work.
